Put your paws together to celebrate our DUO Pet of the Week, Jane and Jada! These wonderfully shy kitties certainly know how to have a good time when they're by themselves, but what's a visit like when they won't come out from under the bed? Yes, even the shy pets need some attention! Maybe it sounds familiar for other cat owners. Jane is all black cat and very seldom seen except when peeking under the protection of the owners' mattress; Jada is a tabby cat that occasionally works up the curiosity and bravery needed to venture down the stairs! Shy babies may not crave the spotlight, but we're leading them into it anyway and with a trail of yummy treats. Keep scrolling for more Jane and Jada!
Jessie, Suzi, and Victoria have taken care of this cute little duo the most. Whenever their owners are away, we stick to a basic routine of feeding, cleaning the litter, and hoping to see brave Jada. Upon arriving to care for these girls, we start talking to them right away and continue throughout the visit; just the sound of a gentle, happy voice becoming more familiar over time is great persuasion!
We will usually head up to the bedroom and snap a picture while trying not to threaten that safe space. The girls will have their dry food and wet food set out, dishes washed, water bowl refreshed, litter scooped and floor swept. The Captain's 30 Minute home visit is ample time to take care of business and sometimes enough for Jada to venture out of her safe space and investigate their visitor!
Initially, it took patience over several visits before Jada came around, and a few more to pet her soft fur. She will always dictate whether she wants to come for pets, often choosing to watch from a distance, and that's okay. They always leave plenty of evidence that they're still having a great time on their own! We walk in to scattered toys and skidded up rugs, and we hide a few treats in places they frequent, like the back of the couch where they look out the windows. We just love imagining how playful they are with each other that they end up tossing a poof ball toy right into the water bowl, or pull the rug half under the bed with them. Let's celebrate these hesitant, timid kitties who prefer to hide from strangers - with a quiet toss of cat treat confetti!
